The Pressure Equipment Directive, commonly called PED, is a Product Directive (97/23 / EC) issued by the European Community, and implemented in Italy by Legislative Decree No. 93/2000. Until May 30, 2002 it was possible to continue to apply the existing Italian legislation and, from that date, the PED has become binding and has replaced the previous provisions. The directive would be replaced by 2014/68 / EU in July 2016.
It regulates the design, construction, equipment and installation safety of pressure vessels, similar to US standards ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessels Code, Section VIII Division 1 and 2.

The PED only concerns the placing on the Community market of pressure equipment, but does not give guidance on the requirements relating to operation and maintenance of the same, which are defined by national regulations.
All installations of pressure equipment subject to the PED Directive must be communicated to INAIL.
The decree announced by the Government in the Council of Ministers of February 12, brings significant changes to the legislative decree 25 February 2000 n. 93, which implements in Italy Directive 97/23 / EC relating to pressure equipment, from Title Legislative Decree no. 93/2000 which is replaced in “Implementation of Directive 97/23 / EC on equipment pressure and Directive 2014/68 / EU on the harmonization of the Member States relating to the making available on the pressure equipment (recast), which provides for the repeal. ”
